metal lining enamel, the sides of your mouth bleed
the face in the mirror is captured, your jawline
a work in progress, silver over white that’s tinged yellow
like a blonde pearl, oh the revolution of dentistry
you hate the face in the mirror staring back at you,
smile aligned with metal covering them, holding them.
apples, bubblegum and things you can’t eat
sit at the dinner table, pondering their existence
oh, i’ve been there before. your voice
edges and curves, your gums feel sore,
the dentist’s office becomes a second home
and you close your eyes, pretend you can’t hear the drilling;
pretend this is happening to someone else
and the saddest part is when you think about it
there’s never a heroine with metal teeth, and
all your favourite fictional characters have flawless smiles,
none of the older ones have dentures, you shouldn’t care so much
but the world means nothing if it doesn’t hurt
not that that means much, anyway. i mean
the world means nothing in this barbed wire
cutthroat extraction of mouthwash existence,
my retainers yodel and keep me awake at night
while my teeth whisper, let go. some days
i smile a metallic smile and think about
how nobody can kiss me now. the smile goes bitter
when i remember that nobody wants to kiss me anyway.

„Look at this, Luke!” The younger of the two boys on the other side of the waiting area showed his brother something on his cellphone. Both giggled, while their parents were arguing with subdued voices over how to fill out a very specific form. I was eyeing the older one with curiosity. He was a bit older than me, probably 16. I didn’t know anything about him except that his name was Luke, I liked his chaotic brown hair, and that he was in a lime green wheelchair, wearing matching shorts. His legs were thin and motionless, his naked feet resting solemnly on the foot plate of his wheelchair. I took note especially of how his toes curled around the front edge of the plate, where it met the solid metal frame of the wheelchair. A pair of clean, green sneakers that were likely his were put neatly next to each other on the otherwise empty gray chair to his mother’s left. I liked the color of his chair, but I had seen him for the first time today and would probably never see him again

Arianna's Accident: Chapter 1
When Arianna awoke, her mind shrouded in a haze of confusion. The world around her seemed distant and muffled, like she was floating in a void. She tried to make sense of her surroundings, but she could only see a starch-white ceiling above her. When she tried to turn her head to see what was around her, nothing happened. In fact, she couldn't even feel her body. She gasped, panicked, except- She didn't. Her lungs didn't respond to the inhale she tried to take. Instead, they filled, and emptied, the rhythm calm, and all without her needing to breathe. That's when she noticed the odd, uncomfortable sensation of something in her mouth. It was smooth and plastic, and coated in saliva. It was thick enough that it propped her mouth open, her lips unable to close around it, and now that she was conscious of its presence, she began to try to breathe against it, unable to passively allow it to breathe for her. She began to choke. "Arianna! Arianna, can you hear me? Just relax." She did

Doctor's Orders Ch1 - Prologue
Please note, this is slightly revised from the original story posted in Wheelchairfiction - felt it needed a little updating.
Chapter 1 - Prologue
They say that stress is bad for you. Well it was bad for Annie, hot-shot lawyer who couldn’t control her impulse to win in court. As a defence lawyer, she was great at getting her clients out of a tight spot and as long as they told her they were innocent, she was paid very well to believe them. But it had taken its toll on her private life. She had little time to see friends and family, her mother often made frantic phone calls to her cell phone telling her she’d been to her apartmen

written on 14th August, 2016. I had braces back in..8th? 9th? grade and I remember being really upset over it at first because "fictional heroes don't have braces"or something like that.
